102:1

Hassanor Alapa : Miatmbang kano o 2063 giikapakandakla ko tamok

Muhsin Khan : The mutual rivalry for piling up of worldly things diverts you,

Sahih International : Competition in [worldly] increase diverts you

Pickthall : Rivalry in worldly increase distracteth you

Yusuf Ali : The mutual rivalry for piling up (the good things of this world) diverts you (from the more serious things),

Shakir : Abundance diverts you,

Dr. Ghali : (Gross) multiplying diverts you.

Tafsir Jalalayn : Rivalry [in worldly things], mutual vainglory about wealth, children and men, distracts you, preoccupies you [diverting you] from obedience to God,

Muhsin Khan : Until you visit the graves (i.e. till you die).

Sahih International : Until you visit the graveyards.

Pickthall : Until ye come to the graves.

Yusuf Ali : Until ye visit the graves.

Shakir : Until you come to the graves.

Dr. Ghali : Till you visit the cemeteries.

Tafsir Jalalayn : until you visit the graves, [either] in that you have died and then been buried in them, or [it means] to the extent that you [actually] count the dead as a something to rival one another by.

102:3

Hassanor Alapa : Di’, tankd a khatokawan iyo dn

Muhsin Khan : Nay! You shall come to know!

Sahih International : No! You are going to know.

Pickthall : Nay, but ye will come to know!

Yusuf Ali : But nay, ye soon shall know (the reality).

Shakir : Nay! you shall soon know,

Dr. Ghali : Not at all! (But) eventually you will know.

Tafsir Jalalayn : No indeed! — a disavowal. You will come to know!

102:4

Hassanor Alapa : Oriyan iyan na di’, ka tankd a khatokawan iyo dn

Muhsin Khan : Again, Nay! You shall come to know!

Sahih International : Then no! You are going to know.

Pickthall : Nay, but ye will come to know!

Yusuf Ali : Again, ye soon shall know!

Shakir : Nay! Nay! you shall soon know.

Dr. Ghali : Again (Literally: Thereafter) not at all! (But) eventually you will know.

Tafsir Jalalayn : Again, no indeed! You will come to know, the evil consequences of your mutual vainglory at the moment of the extraction [of the soul], then [you will come to know] in the grave.

102:5

Hassanor Alapa : Di’, ka o katawi niyo sa katao a tankd

Muhsin Khan : Nay! If you knew with a sure knowledge (the end result of piling up, you would not have occupied yourselves in worldly things)

Sahih International : No! If you only knew with knowledge of certainty...

Pickthall : Nay, would that ye knew (now) with a sure knowledge!

Yusuf Ali : Nay, were ye to know with certainty of mind, (ye would beware!)

Shakir : Nay! if you had known with a certain knowledge,

Dr. Ghali : Not at all! (But) if you know with the knowledge of certitude,

Tafsir Jalalayn : No indeed! — verily — Were you to know with certain knowledge, the consequences of your vainglory, you would not preoccupy yourselves with it, [for]

102:6

Hassanor Alapa : Na disomala a khailay niyo so Naraka a Jahīm

Muhsin Khan : Verily, You shall see the blazing Fire (Hell)!

Sahih International : You will surely see the Hellfire.

Pickthall : For ye will behold hell-fire.

Yusuf Ali : Ye shall certainly see Hell-Fire!

Shakir : You should most certainly have seen the hell;

Dr. Ghali : Indeed you will definitely see Hell-Fire.

Tafsir Jalalayn : you would surely see hell-fire, the Fire (la-tarawunna’l-jahīma: this is the response to an omitted oath; the third consonant of the root of the verb [r-’-y] together with the second have been omitted, and its vowel has been transposed onto the rā’).

Muhsin Khan : And again, you shall see it with certainty of sight!

Sahih International : Then you will surely see it with the eye of certainty.

Pickthall : Aye, ye will behold it with sure vision.

Yusuf Ali : Again, ye shall see it with certainty of sight!

Shakir : Then you shall most certainly see it with the eye of certainty;

Dr. Ghali : (Again), (Literally: Thereafter) indeed you will definitely see it with the eye of certitude,

Tafsir Jalalayn : Again, you will surely see it — [repeated] for emphasis — with the eye of certainty (‘ayna is a verbal noun, as both ra’ā and ‘āyana have the same meaning).

102:8

Hassanor Alapa : Oriyan iyan na tankd a ipagiza rkano sa alongan oto so makapantag ko limo 2064 (a siwitan iyo).

Muhsin Khan : Then, on that Day, you shall be asked about the delight (you indulged in, in this world)!

Sahih International : Then you will surely be asked that Day about pleasure.

Pickthall : Then, on that day, ye will be asked concerning pleasure.

Yusuf Ali : Then, shall ye be questioned that Day about the joy (ye indulged in!).

Shakir : Then on that day you shall most certainly be questioned about the boons.

Dr. Ghali : Thereafter indeed you will definitely be questioned upon that Day concerning (the worldly) bliss.

Tafsir Jalalayn : Then, on that day, the day you see it, you will assuredly be questioned (la-tus’alunna: the nūn of the indicative has been omitted because of one nūn coming after the other; likewise [omitted] is the wāw indicating the plural person [of the verb] because of two unvocalised consonants coming together) about the comforts [of the world], the health, leisure, security, food, drink and other things which one enjoys in this world.
