72:1

Hassanor Alapa : Tharo anka (hay Mohammad) a iniwahi rakn a mataan a adn a miamakin’g a salompok a Jinn 1853 sa pitharo iran a mian’g ami a Qur’ān a piakammsa

Muhsin Khan : Say (O Muhammad SAW): "It has been revealed to me that a group (from three to ten in number) of jinns listened (to this Quran). They said: 'Verily! We have heard a wonderful Recital (this Quran)!

Sahih International : Say, [O Muhammad], "It has been revealed to me that a group of the jinn listened and said, 'Indeed, we have heard an amazing Qur'an.

Pickthall : Say (O Muhammad): It is revealed unto me that a company of the Jinn gave ear, and they said: Lo! we have heard a marvellous Qur'an,

Yusuf Ali : Say: It has been revealed to me that a company of Jinns listened (to the Qur'an). They said, 'We have really heard a wonderful Recital!

Shakir : Say: It has been revealed to me that a party of the jinn listened, and they said: Surely we have heard a wonderful Quran,

Dr. Ghali : Say, "It has been revealed to me that a batch of the jinn listened; then they said, ‘Surely we have heard a wondrous Qur'an,

Tafsir Jalalayn : Say, O Muhammad (s), to people: ‘It has been revealed to me, that is to say, I have been informed by way of revelation from God, exalted be He, that (annahu: the [suffixed] pronoun is that of the matter) a company of the jinn, the jinn of Nasībīn. This was at the time of the morning prayer at Batn Nakhla, a location between Mecca and Tā’if — these [jinn] being those mentioned in God’s saying, And when We sent a company of jinn your way…’ [Q. 46:29] — listened, to my recitation, then said, to their people upon returning to them: “We have indeed heard a marvellous Qur’ān, whose clarity, the richness of its meanings and other aspects one marvels at,

72:2

Hassanor Alapa : A pthoro ko mapia na piaratiaya mi skaniyan go di ami dn iphanakoto so Kadnan ami sa isa bo

Muhsin Khan : 'It guides to the Right Path, and we have believed therein, and we shall never join (in worship) anything with our Lord (Allah).

Sahih International : It guides to the right course, and we have believed in it. And we will never associate with our Lord anyone.

Pickthall : Which guideth unto righteousness, so we believe in it and we ascribe no partner unto our Lord.

Yusuf Ali : 'It gives guidance to the Right, and we have believed therein: we shall not join (in worship) any (gods) with our Lord.

Shakir : Guiding to the right way, so we believe in it, and we will not set up any one with our Lord:

Dr. Ghali : Guiding to right-mindedness; so we believe in it, and we will never associate with our Lord anyone.

Tafsir Jalalayn : which guides to rectitude, to faith and propriety. Therefore we believe in it and we will never, after this day, associate anyone with our Lord.

Muhsin Khan : 'And exalted be the Majesty of our Lord, He has taken neither a wife, nor a son (or offspring or children).

Sahih International : And [it teaches] that exalted is the nobleness of our Lord; He has not taken a wife or a son

Pickthall : And (we believe) that He - exalted be the glory of our Lord! - hath taken neither wife nor son,

Yusuf Ali : 'And Exalted is the Majesty of our Lord: He has taken neither a wife nor a son.

Shakir : And that He-- exalted be the majesty of our Lord-- has not taken a consort, nor a son:

Dr. Ghali : And (we believe) that He-Supremely Exalted be our Lord's Dignity- in no way has He taken to Him either a female companion or a child.

Tafsir Jalalayn : And [we believe] that (annahu: the pronoun in this and in the next two instances is that of the matter) — exalted be the majesty of our Lord, transcendent is His majesty and magnificence above what is ascribed to Him — He has taken neither spouse nor son.

72:4

Hassanor Alapa : Go miaadn a giitharoon o manga bon’g rkami ko Allāh a katharo a kabokhag

Muhsin Khan : 'And that the foolish among us [i.e. Iblis (Satan) or the polytheists amongst the jinns] used to utter against Allah that which was wrong and not right.

Sahih International : And that our foolish one has been saying about Allah an excessive transgression.

Pickthall : And that the foolish one among us used to speak concerning Allah an atrocious lie.

Yusuf Ali : 'There were some foolish ones among us, who used to utter extravagant lies against Allah;

Shakir : And that the foolish amongst us used to forge extravagant things against Allah:

Dr. Ghali : And that the foolish (ones) among us used to speak against Allah unjudiciously.

Tafsir Jalalayn : And that the fool among us, the ignorant one among us, used to utter atrocious lies against God, extreme calumny by attributing to Him a spouse and a son.

72:5

Hassanor Alapa : Go pinikir ami a di dn ptharo so manosiya ago so Jinn ko Allāh sa kabokhag

Muhsin Khan : 'And verily, we thought that men and jinns would not utter a lie against Allah.

Sahih International : And we had thought that mankind and the jinn would never speak about Allah a lie.

Pickthall : And lo! we had supposed that humankind and jinn would not speak a lie concerning Allah -

Yusuf Ali : 'But we do think that no man or spirit should say aught that untrue against Allah.

Shakir : And that we thought that men and jinn did not utter a lie against Allah:

Dr. Ghali : And that we surmised that humankind and the jinn would never speak against Allah a lie.

Tafsir Jalalayn : And we thought that (an: softened, that is to say, annahu) humans and jinn would never utter a lie against God, by attributing such things to Him, until we discovered their mendacity thereby. God, exalted be He, says:

Tagalog : At katiyakan, iniisip namin na ang tao at ang ‘jinn’ ay hindi magsisinungaling laban sa Allâh sa pamamagitan ng paglalagay niya ng kahanay sa pagsamba sa Allâh sa pagsasabi niyang Siya ay mayroong asawa at anak.

72:6

Hassanor Alapa : Go miaadn a manga mama a pd ko manosiya a phlindong siran sa manga mama a pd ko Jinn 1854 na inomanan iran siran sa kalk a mapnd

Muhsin Khan : 'And verily, there were men among mankind who took shelter with the masculine among the jinns, but they (jinns) increased them (mankind) in sin and disbelief.

Sahih International : And there were men from mankind who sought refuge in men from the jinn, so they [only] increased them in burden.

Pickthall : And indeed (O Muhammad) individuals of humankind used to invoke the protection of individuals of the jinn, so that they increased them in revolt against Allah);

Yusuf Ali : 'True, there were persons among mankind who took shelter with persons among the Jinns, but they increased them in folly.

Shakir : And that persons from among men used to seek refuge with persons from among jinn, so they increased them in wrongdoing:

Dr. Ghali : And that (certain) men of the humankind used to take refuge with (certain) men of the jinn; so they increased them in oppression.

Tafsir Jalalayn : And that certain individuals of mankind used to seek the protection of certain individuals of the jinn, when they stopped over in dangerous places during their journeys — whereat every man would say, ‘I seek the protection of the lord of this place against the evil of the insolent ones in it’ — so that they increased them, by their seeking their protection, in oppressiveness, such that they would say, ‘We are now lords of jinn and humans!’.

72:7

Hassanor Alapa : Go mataan a pinikir iran sa datar o kiapikira niyo ron a di dn magoyag so Allāh sa isa bo (ko oriyan o kapatay)

Muhsin Khan : 'And they thought as you thought, that Allah will not send any Messenger (to mankind or jinns).

Sahih International : And they had thought, as you thought, that Allah would never send anyone [as a messenger].

Pickthall : And indeed they supposed, even as ye suppose, that Allah would not raise anyone (from the dead) -

Yusuf Ali : 'And they (came to) think as ye thought, that Allah would not raise up any one (to Judgment).

Shakir : And that they thought as you think, that Allah would not raise anyone:

Dr. Ghali : And that they surmised, as you (The pronoun is plural) also surmised, that Allah would never make anyone to rise again.

Tafsir Jalalayn : And they, namely, the jinn, thought just as you, O humans, thought, that (an: softened in place of the hardened form, that is to say, annahu) God would never raise anyone, after his death.

72:8

Hassanor Alapa : Go mataan a minisampay kami ko langit na miaomami skaniyan a mappno a tikay a mabagr ago manga kadg 1855

Muhsin Khan : 'And we have sought to reach the heaven; but found it filled with stern guards and flaming fires.

Sahih International : And we have sought [to reach] the heaven but found it filled with powerful guards and burning flames.

Pickthall : And (the Jinn who had listened to the Qur'an said): We had sought the heaven but had found it filled with strong warders and meteors.

Yusuf Ali : 'And we pried into the secrets of heaven; but we found it filled with stern guards and flaming fires.

Shakir : And that we sought to reach heaven, but we found it filled with strong guards and flaming stars.

Dr. Ghali : And that we contacted the heaven, yet we found it filled with very strict guards and flaming (meteors).

Tafsir Jalalayn : The jinn say: And we made for the heaven, we desired to listen by stealth, but we found it filled with mighty guards, from among the angels, and meteors, scorching stars: this was at the time of the sending of the Prophet (s).

72:9

Hassanor Alapa : Sa miaadn kami a pndarpa kami ron sa kadarpa a kapamakin’g (ko manga kokoman ko langit a khitana ko doniya) na sa mamakin’g imanto na khaomaan iyan (so langit) sa kadg a pphagayan a phanotong

Muhsin Khan : 'And verily, we used to sit there in stations, to (steal) a hearing, but any who listens now will find a flaming fire watching him in ambush.

Sahih International : And we used to sit therein in positions for hearing, but whoever listens now will find a burning flame lying in wait for him.

Pickthall : And we used to sit on places (high) therein to listen. But he who listeneth now findeth a flame in wait for him;

Yusuf Ali : 'We used, indeed, to sit there in (hidden) stations, to (steal) a hearing; but any who listen now will find a flaming fire watching him in ambush.

Shakir : And that we used to sit in some of the sitting-places thereof to steal a hearing, but he who would (try to) listen now would find a flame lying in wait for him:

Dr. Ghali : And that we used to sit (there) on seats for (over)hearing; yet whoever listens now finds a flaming (meteor) (closely) observing him.

Tafsir Jalalayn : And we used to, that is to say, before his Mission, sit in [certain] places therein to listen in; but anyone listening now will find a meteor lying in wait for him, aimed at him, ready to strike him.

72:10

Hassanor Alapa : Go skami na di ami katawan o so marata i kiabayaan 1856 (o Allāh) a ayapakapnggolalann ko manga kaadn ko lopa antaa ka ba aya kabaya kiran o Kadnan iran na mapia

Muhsin Khan : 'And we know not whether evil is intended for those on earth, or whether their Lord intends for them a Right Path.

Sahih International : And we do not know [therefore] whether evil is intended for those on earth or whether their Lord intends for them a right course.

Pickthall : And we know not whether harm is boded unto all who are in the earth, or whether their Lord intendeth guidance for them.

Yusuf Ali : 'And we understand not whether ill is intended to those on earth, or whether their Lord (really) intends to guide them to right conduct.

Shakir : And that we know not whether evil is meant for those who are on earth or whether their Lord means to bring them good:

Dr. Ghali : And that we do not realize whether evil is willed for whoever are in the earth, or whether their Lord wills for them rectitude.

Tafsir Jalalayn : And we do not know, by not being able to eavesdrop by stealth, whether ill is intended for those who are in the earth, or whether their Lord intends for them good.

72:11

Hassanor Alapa : Go mataan a pd rkami (a Jinn) so manga pipia ago pd rkami so salakaw roo, miaadn kami a adn a manga kpit ami a mbidabida

Muhsin Khan : 'There are among us some that are righteous, and some the contrary; we are groups each having a different way (religious sect, etc.).

Sahih International : And among us are the righteous, and among us are [others] not so; we were [of] divided ways.

Pickthall : And among us there are righteous folk and among us there are far from that. We are sects having different rules.

Yusuf Ali : 'There are among us some that are righteous, and some the contrary: we follow divergent paths.

Shakir : And that some of us are good and others of us are below that: we are sects following different ways:

Dr. Ghali : And that among us are the righteous, and among us are lesser than that; (i.e., besides that) we have been of discrete roads.

Tafsir Jalalayn : And that among us some have become righteous, after having listened to the Qur’ān, and some of us are otherwise, that is to say, a folk who are unrighteous; we are [made up of] different sects, opposing groups, [some] submitters to God and [others] disbelievers.

72:12

Hassanor Alapa : Go tiankd ami a di ami dn khakowaan sa bagr so Allāh ko lopa ago di ami dn khagaga oba ami kapalagoyi

Muhsin Khan : 'And we think that we cannot escape (from the punishment of) Allah in the earth, nor can we escape (from the punishment) by flight.

Sahih International : And we have become certain that we will never cause failure to Allah upon earth, nor can we escape Him by flight.

Pickthall : And we know that we cannot escape from Allah in the earth, nor can we escape by flight.

Yusuf Ali : 'But we think that we can by no means frustrate Allah throughout the earth, nor can we frustrate Him by flight.

Shakir : And that we know that we cannot escape Allah in the earth, nor can we escape Him by flight:

Dr. Ghali : And that we surmised that we can never defy Allah in the earth, and we can never defy Him by escaping.

Tafsir Jalalayn : And we assume that (an: softened in place of the hardened form, that is to say, annahu) we will never be able to elude God in the earth, nor will we be able to elude Him by fleeing — we will not be able to escape Him, whether we are on earth or, fleeing from it, in the heavens.

72:13

Hassanor Alapa : Na skami gowani a man’g ami so toroan na piaratiaya mi skaniyan na sa taw a paratiayaan iyan so Kadnan iyan na da a ikalk iyan a kalapis ago da pn a ikhalk iyan a katamboni ron a kadapanas

Muhsin Khan : 'And indeed when we heard the Guidance (this Quran), we believed therein (Islamic Monotheism), and whosoever believes in his Lord shall have no fear, either of a decrease in the reward of his good deeds or an increase in punishment for his sins.

Sahih International : And when we heard the guidance, we believed in it. And whoever believes in his Lord will not fear deprivation or burden.

Pickthall : And when we heard the guidance, we believed therein, and whoso believeth in his Lord, he feareth neither loss nor oppression.

Yusuf Ali : 'And as for us, since we have listened to the Guidance, we have accepted it: and any who believes in his Lord has no fear, either of a short (account) or of any injustice.

Shakir : And that when we heard the guidance, we believed in it; so whoever believes in his Lord, he should neither fear loss nor being overtaken (by disgrace):

Dr. Ghali : And that as soon as we heard the guidance, we believed in it; so whoever believes in his Lord, then he fears neither depreciation nor oppression.

Tafsir Jalalayn : And that when we heard the guidance, the Qur’ān, we believed in it. For whoever believes in his Lord (read an implied huwa, ‘he’, [before fa-lā yakhāfu]) shall fear neither loss, a diminishing of his good deeds, nor oppression, [nor] injustice, by having his evil deeds increased.

72:14

Hassanor Alapa : Go mataan a pd rkami so mmomuslim ago pd rkami so somisilay sa lalan (kafir) 1857 na sa taw a magislam na siran oto so miakatoon siran sa toroan

Muhsin Khan : 'And of us some are Muslims (who have submitted to Allah, after listening to this Quran), and of us some are Al-Qasitun (disbelievers those who have deviated from the Right Path)'. And whosoever has embraced Islam (i.e. has become a Muslim by submitting to Allah), then such have sought the Right Path."

Sahih International : And among us are Muslims [in submission to Allah ], and among us are the unjust. And whoever has become Muslim - those have sought out the right course.

Pickthall : And there are among us some who have surrendered (to Allah) and there are among us some who are unjust. And whoso hath surrendered to Allah, such have taken the right path purposefully.

Yusuf Ali : 'Amongst us are some that submit their wills (to Allah), and some that swerve from justice. Now those who submit their wills - they have sought out (the path) of right conduct:

Shakir : And that some of us are those who submit, and some of us are the deviators; so whoever submits, these aim at the right way:

Dr. Ghali : And that among us are the Muslims, and among us are the inequitable. So whoever have surrendered (to Allah), then those are they who earnestly sought rectitude.

Tafsir Jalalayn : And that among us some have submitted [to God], while some of us are unjust, tyrants — on account of their disbelief. So whoever has submitted [to God], those are the ones who seek right guidance.

Muhsin Khan : And as for the Qasitun (disbelievers who deviated from the Right Path), they shall be firewood for Hell,

Sahih International : But as for the unjust, they will be, for Hell, firewood.'

Pickthall : And as for those who are unjust, they are firewood for hell.

Yusuf Ali : 'But those who swerve,- they are (but) fuel for Hell-fire'-

Shakir : And as to the deviators, they are fuel of hell:

Dr. Ghali : And as for the inequitable, then they are firewood for Hell."

Tafsir Jalalayn : And as for those are unjust, they will be firewood, fuel, for Hell!” ’ (annā, annahum, and annahu totalling all twelve instances [above], including innahu ta‘ālā and annā minnā’l-muslimūna and what comes in between them may be read with a kasra [sc. innā, innahum etc.] indicating a new sentence [every time], or with a fatha [sc. annā, annahum etc.] indicating the statement that will follow [as a relative clause]).

Muhsin Khan : If they (non-Muslims) had believed in Allah, and went on the Right Way (i.e. Islam) We should surely have bestowed on them water (rain) in abundance.

Sahih International : And [ Allah revealed] that if they had remained straight on the way, We would have given them abundant provision

Pickthall : If they (the idolaters) tread the right path, We shall give them to drink of water in abundance

Yusuf Ali : (And Allah's Message is): "If they (the Pagans) had (only) remained on the (right) Way, We should certainly have bestowed on them Rain in abundance.

Shakir : And that if they should keep to the (right) way, We would certainly give them to drink of abundant water,

Dr. Ghali : And that if they had gone straight on the right mode (of life), indeed We would have made them to drink copious water.

Tafsir Jalalayn : God, exalted be He, says [the following] about the Meccan disbelievers: And [it has been revealed to me] that if they (allaw: softened in place of the hardened form, its subject having been omitted, that is to say, annahum [law], which is a supplement to annahu istama‘a, ‘that [a company of jinn] listened’) adopt the [right] path, the path of submission [to God], We will give them abundant water to drink, plenteous [water], from the heaven — this was after rain had been withheld from them for seven years —

Tagalog : At katiyakan, kung ang mga walang pananampalataya na mga jinn at mga tao ay sumunod at naniwala lamang sa Daan ng Islâm, at hindi sila lumihis mula rito ay walang pang-aalinlangang ibababa Namin sa kanila ang masaganang tubig, at gagawin Naming maluwag para sa kanila ang pamumuhay dito sa daigdig;

Muhsin Khan : That We might try them thereby. And whosoever turns away from the Reminder of his Lord (i.e. this Quran, and practice not its laws and orders), He will cause him to enter in a severe torment (i.e. Hell).

Sahih International : So We might test them therein. And whoever turns away from the remembrance of his Lord He will put into arduous punishment.

Pickthall : That We may test them thereby, and whoso turneth away from the remembrance of his Lord; He will thrust him into ever-growing torment.

Yusuf Ali : "That We might try them by that (means). But if any turns away from the remembrance of his Lord, He will cause him to undergo a severe Penalty.

Shakir : So that We might try them with respect to it; and whoever turns aside from the reminder of his Lord, He will make him enter into an afflicting chastisement:

Dr. Ghali : That We may tempt them therein; and whoever veers away from the Remembrance of his Lord, He will insert him into a mounting torment.

Tafsir Jalalayn : so that We may try them, test them, therein, and so know, through knowledge outwardly manifested, the nature of their gratitude. And whoever turns away from the remembrance of his Lord, [from] the Qur’ān, We will admit him (naslukhu, or read [first person] yaslukhu, ‘He will admit him’) into a tortuous chastisement.

Tagalog : Upang subukin Namin sila: kung paano sila tatanaw ng utang na loob sa mga biyaya ng Allâh sa kanila. Yusuf Ali : "And the places of worship are for Allah (alone): So invoke not any one along with Allah;

Shakir : And that the mosques are Allah's, therefore call not upon any one with Allah:

Dr. Ghali : And that the mosques belong to Allah; so do not invoke, along with Allah, anyone.

Tafsir Jalalayn : And [it has been revealed to me] that the places of prayer belong to God, so do not invoke, in them, anyone along with God, by associating others with Him, like the Jews and Christians do, who, when they enter their churches and temples, they ascribe partners to God.

Sahih International : And that when the Servant of Allah stood up supplicating Him, they almost became about him a compacted mass."

Pickthall : And when the slave of Allah stood up in prayer to Him, they crowded on him, almost stifling.

Yusuf Ali : "Yet when the Devotee of Allah stands forth to invoke Him, they just make round him a dense crowd."

Shakir : And that when the servant of Allah stood up calling upon Him, they wellnigh crowded him (to death).

Dr. Ghali : And that as soon as the bondman of Allah rose up invoking Him, they almost densely packed upon him.

Tafsir Jalalayn : And that (annahu; or innahu as a new sentence, the pronoun being that of the matter) when the servant of God, the Prophet Muhammad (s), rose to invoke Him, to worship Him, at Batn Nakhla, they, that is, the jinn listening to his recitation, were almost upon him in heaps (libadan or lubadan, the plural of libda [or lubda], like felt in the way they were heaped on top of one another, crowding in their eagerness to listen to the Qur’ān).

Pickthall : (Mine is) but conveyance (of the Truth) from Allah, and His messages; and whoso disobeyeth Allah and His messenger, lo! his is fire of hell, wherein such dwell for ever.

Yusuf Ali : "Unless I proclaim what I receive from Allah and His Messages: for any that disobey Allah and His Messenger,- for them is Hell: they shall dwell therein for ever."

Shakir : (It is) only a delivering (of communications) from Allah and His messages; and whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger surely he shall have the fire of hell to abide therein for a long time.

Pickthall : Till (the day) when they shall behold that which they are promised (they may doubt); but then they will know (for certain) who is weaker in allies and less in multitude.

Yusuf Ali : At length, when they see (with their own eyes) that which they are promised,- then will they know who it is that is weakest in (his) helper and least important in point of numbers.

Shakir : Until when they see what they are threatened with, then shall they know who is weaker in helpers and fewer in number.

Dr. Ghali : Until, when they see that which they are promised, then they will soon know who is weaker in vindicators and fewer in numbers."

Tafsir Jalalayn : Such that when they see (hattā is for inceptiveness, [but] also entailing a purposive sense to an implied preceding clause, that is to say, they persist in their disbelief until they come to see …) what they are promised, of chastisement, they will then know, at the moment that it befalls them, [either] on the day of Badr or on the Day of Resurrection, who is weaker in supporters and fewer in numbers, in assistants: is it them or the believers — according to the former [reading]? Or, is it Me or them, according to the latter. Some of them said, ‘When will this promise be [fulfilled]?’, whereupon the following was revealed:
