Tagalog : Nun.

Muhsin Khan : (Remember) the Day when the Shin shall be laid bare (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) and they shall be called to prostrate (to Allah), but they (hypocrites) shall not be able to do so,

Sahih International : The Day the shin will be uncovered and they are invited to prostration but the disbelievers will not be able,

Pickthall : On the day when it befalleth in earnest, and they are ordered to prostrate themselves but are not able,

Yusuf Ali : The Day that the shin shall be laid bare, and they shall be summoned to bow in adoration, but they shall not be able,-

Shakir : On the day when there shall be a severe affliction, and they shall be called upon to make obeisance, but they shall not be able,

Dr. Ghali : On the Day when the shank will be bared and they will be called to prostrate themselves, yet they are unable to.

Tafsir Jalalayn : Mention, the day when the shank is bared (an expression denoting the severity of the predicament during the reckoning and the requital on the Day of Resurrection: one says kashafati’l-harbu ‘an sāqin, ‘the war has bared its shank’, to mean that it has intensified) and they are summoned to prostrate themselves, as a test of their faith, but they will not be able [to do so] — their backs will become as [stiff as] a brick wall.

Sahih International : Their eyes humbled, humiliation will cover them. And they used to be invited to prostration while they were sound.

Pickthall : With eyes downcast, abasement stupefying them. And they had been summoned to prostrate themselves while they were yet unhurt.

Yusuf Ali : Their eyes will be cast down,- ignominy will cover them; seeing that they had been summoned aforetime to bow in adoration, while they were whole, (and had refused).

Shakir : Their looks cast down, abasement shall overtake them; and they were called upon to make obeisance indeed while yet they were safe.

Dr. Ghali : Submissive will be their be holdings, (i.e., gazes) humbleness oppressing them. And they had been already called to prostrate themselves while (Literally: and) they were safe.

Tafsir Jalalayn : With humbled (khāshi‘atan is a circumstantial qualifier referring to the person [of the verb] yud‘awna, ‘they are summoned’) that is to say, with abject, gazes, which they do not raise, they will be overcast, enveloped, by abasement; for they had indeed been summoned, in this world, to prostrate themselves while they were yet sound, but they never used to do it, by the fact that they never performed prayer.

Pickthall : Leave Me (to deal) with those who give the lie to this pronouncement. We shall lead them on by steps from whence they know not.

Yusuf Ali : Then leave Me alone with such as reject this Message: by degrees shall We punish them from directions they perceive not.

Shakir : So leave Me and him who rejects this announcement; We will overtake them by degrees, from whence they perceive not:

Dr. Ghali : So leave Me (to deal) with him who cries lies to this discourse! We will soon draw them gradually (to punishment) from where they do not know,

Yusuf Ali : A (long) respite will I grant them: truly powerful is My Plan.

Shakir : And I do bear with them, surely My plan is firm.

Dr. Ghali : And I will reprieve them. Surely My plotting is ever-pervading.

Tafsir Jalalayn : And I will grant them respite; [for] assuredly My devising is firm, [My devising is] severe and cannot be withstood.

Yusuf Ali : Or is it that thou dost ask them for a reward, so that they are burdened with a load of debt?-

Shakir : Or do you ask from them a reward, so that they are burdened with debt?

Dr. Ghali : Or even do you ask them for a reward so they are weighed down with heavy fines?

Pickthall : Or is the Unseen theirs that they can write (thereof)?

Yusuf Ali : Or that the Unseen is in their hands, so that they can write it down?

Shakir : Or have they (the knowledge of) the unseen, so that they write (it) down?

Dr. Ghali : Or even is the Unseen in their presence so they are writing (it down)?

Sahih International : Then be patient for the decision of your Lord, [O Muhammad], and be not like the companion of the fish when he called out while he was distressed.

Pickthall : But wait thou for thy Lord's decree, and be not like him of the fish, who cried out in despair.

Yusuf Ali : So wait with patience for the Command of thy Lord, and be not like the Companion of the Fish,- when he cried out in agony.

Shakir : So wait patiently for the judgment of your Lord, and be not like the companion of the fish, when he cried while he was in distress.

Dr. Ghali : So (endure) patiently under the Judgment of your Lord, and do not be as the Companion of the Whale (Prophet Yunus "Jonah") as he called out, as he (was) made to choke (inwardly).

Tafsir Jalalayn : So await patiently the judgement of your Lord, regarding them in the way that He wills, and do not be like the one of the whale, in terms of impatience and haste — this is Jonah, peace be upon him — who called out, [who] supplicated his Lord, choking with grief, filled with anguish inside the belly of the whale.

Pickthall : Had it not been that favour from his Lord had reached him he surely had been cast into the wilderness while he was reprobate.

Yusuf Ali : Had not Grace from his Lord reached him, he would indeed have been cast off on the naked shore, in disgrace.

Shakir : Were it not that favor from his Lord had overtaken him, he would certainly have been cast down upon the naked Found while he was blamed.

Dr. Ghali : Had there not overtaken him a favor from his Lord, indeed he would have been flung off upon the naked shore (i.e., the wilderness) (while) he was a reprobate.

Tafsir Jalalayn : Had it not been for a grace, a mercy, from his Lord that reached him, he would have surely been cast, out of the belly of the whale, onto a wilderness, a desolate land, while he was blameworthy — but he was shown mercy and was therefore cast out blameless.

Shakir : And those who disbelieve would almost smite you with their eyes when they hear the reminder, and they say: Most surely he is mad.

Dr. Ghali : And decidedly the ones who have disbelieved were indeed almost about to trip you with their be holdings as soon as they heard the Remembrance, and they say, "Surely he is indeed a madman."

Tafsir Jalalayn : Indeed those who disbelieve would almost throw you down [to the ground] (read la-yuzliqūnaka or la-yazliqūnaka) with their looks, looking at you in a severe way, almost hurling you to the ground or making you fall from your place, when they hear the Reminder, the Qur’ān, and they say, out of envy: ‘He is truly a madman!’, on account of the Qur’ān that he has brought.

68:52

Hassanor Alapa : Go da skaniyan (a Qur’an) a rowar sa pananadm ko manga kaadn.

Muhsin Khan : But it is nothing else than a Reminder to all the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists).

Sahih International : But it is not except a reminder to the worlds.

Pickthall : When it is naught else than a Reminder to creation.

Yusuf Ali : But it is nothing less than a Message to all the worlds.

Shakir : And it is naught but a reminder to the nations.

Dr. Ghali : And in no way is it anything except a Remembrance to the worlds.

Tafsir Jalalayn : Yet it, namely, the Qur’ān, is just a Reminder, an admonition, for all the worlds, of [both] humans and jinn, and cannot be the cause of any dementia.
